On 4th November 2010, AEGEE-Valletta’s Executive Board, Alumni and active members celebrated 14 years from when the association was officially founded in Malta by hosting a reception at 2 22 two twenty-two in Valletta.
It was way back on the 2nd November 1997 when the founding President of AEGEE-Valletta Mr. Roger Bugeja signed the Convention d’Adhesion in AEGEE’s bi-annual General Network Meeting also known as AGORA in Ankara Turkey to officially enroll AEGEE-Valletta as a contact antenna within AEGEE’s European Network. Within a year during AGORA Hamburg, Germany and following its 1st International event hosted in Malta during the summer of 1998, the local branch AEGEE-Valletta was successful recognised as an antenna.
In addressing all those present, Mr. Bugeja gave a brief resume of how it all started and went through the past 14 years of the association. He also mentioned the many achievements and successes that characterized AEGEE-Valletta’s eventful history. Remarkable to mention are the National Recognition for Youth Work in Society Award which was awarded in 2000 to AEGEE-Valletta by the then Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth and Sport in the Ministry of Education, the EGEE XX Best Event Award in 2005 following the organisation of the European Boards’ Meeting and the Best Event Award in 2007 following the organisation of AEGEE’s Spring AGORA-Valletta 2007. AEGEE-Valletta was also voted various times amongst one of the best antennae by AEGEE-European members and ranked amongst the top organisations on University campus.
During his speech Mr. Chris Frendo, current President of AEGEE-Valletta highlighted the plans for the forthcoming year including the upcoming Winter Event 2011 which will be hosted in Malta between 28th December 2011 and 4th January 2012. This event will also kick start the association 15th anniversary celebrations. In concluding he also congratulated Mr. Pierre Vassallo La Rosa for being appointed honorary member of the association.
Finally Alistair Zarb, Alumni Coordinator thanked those present and all others whose efforts and sacrifices helped and are still helping in a way or another to keep AEGEE-Valletta amongst the best organisations on university campus and within the AEGEE European network.
